One extended voyage around the Australian Coast is being halted days after the fatal incident of an senior woman who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been walking on the remote island with other travelers from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the group for a break. The ship departed without her and went back several hours later after the ship staff discovered the lady was not present.

A major rescue mission found her body the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the event, in coordination with law enforcement and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company said that guests and personnel on the ship were informed that the continuation of the journey had been called off due to the "sad loss and earlier mechanical issues".
