It has been 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.
